Hey look, it's another pet story!! This will appeal to you if you are a dog lover and boater....it looks as if Snickers the cocker spaniel has been rescued! Snickers spent three months adrift on a 48-foot boat and survived four months on a tiny Pacific atoll where his owners, Jerry and Darla Merrow of California, left him when they were rescued, after a cargo vessel refused to take him. Now Snickers is in Honolulu, rescued by cruise ship workers, the Hawaiian Humane Society, an airline, and others who have united to find him a home. The original owners gave up ownership of Snickers wanting to move on from their experience.Last December, the Merrows catamaran developed mast problems and hit a reef near Fanning Island, a populated but tiny atoll about 1,000 miles south of Hawaii. They swam ashore with Snickers where he was left in the care of some islanders, but apparently not very well. After awhile, the dog was actually "left to fend for itself."
