Houston, B.C. is the hot spot for Sasquatch sightings. There are have been 3 over the past month. One was reported by a woman in her home at the end of July. Her dogs began barking like crazy, and she saw the doorknob to her house rattle...when she went to see what it was, she saw a shaggy-haired creature running across the tree line, and into the bushes. It was huge, about 7 or 8ft tall, and it's long, shaggy hair was the colour of a pine beetle. There were 2 other sightings about an hour and a half away, one on a road and another on the highway.

TODAY'S RAP SHEET FOR WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2008

If you happen to get on the Spirit of BC ferry, it may take you a little longer to get to the mainland, depending on the tides in Active Pass. It needs a major engine overhaul, which it'll get in November. Meantime, it'll run on 3 of it's 4 engines, which will keep it on schedule except during certain tides. For safety reasons, it'll take a longer route, which adds an extra 45 minutes of sailing time.

All of that effort and searching yesterday morning off of Oak Bay, it's been discovered the mysterious mayday call was actually a "hoax". Got the call late Monday night, spend hours and hours searching for a 45-foot vessel in distress. Police are now searching for the hoaxer.

Physicists and scientists from around the world, only 2 short weeks ago were cheering about the Large Hadron Collider being operational...worth 5 and a half billion dollars, 20 years in the making...suppose to tell us about the beginnings of the Universe...it went on the fritz! Collider is out of action til spring because of some sort of helium leak that first shut it down last Thursday...scientists restarted it on Friday, only to have it break down later in the day.

Premiere of the new Knight Rider is on tonight at 8. "Kitt" was originally a Trans Am, he's now a Mustang Shelby GT with the voice by Val Kilmer. Kitt and his crime-fighting partner, Michael Traceur, who is the estranged son of Michael Knight, will be going after criminals that are likely to be terrorists, instead of drug dealers of the 80's. Will David Hasselhoff make a guest appearance one day???

TODAY'S RAP SHEET FOR MONDAY SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2008: Hello Fall!! As of 8:44 this morning, and because this was a leap year, the change of the season was pushed back by about a day. It's the earliest autumnal equinox in at least 6 years. Weather "experts" say that we had a pretty normal, typical summer, except for about 2 weeks in August...some nice stretches of sunny weather in July and the 1st two weeks of September. If your hoping for an Indian Summer, apparently, the long range forecast is for cooler than normal weather. Definitely cooler and windier as October gets here.

Thought of the day: People don't change when they see the light. They change when they feel the heat! Or Yoda says: There is either do or not do, there is NO try.

They figure there were about 20 to 30 thousand people around Dallas Road and Clover Point to see the spectacular Snow Birds perform. Wasn't that amazing! The show was less than 45 minutes, but the traffic hangover continued for at least 2 hours after.

The Victoria Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Awards were held at the Strathcona Hotel. Everyone from Valdy to Red Robinson to The Brothers' Forbes were back at Element NightClub for the recognition they deserved. There were some of the legends who shaped Victoria music industry, and a great time was had by all.

New season of Dancing with the Stars on tv tonight. Cloris Leachman at 82 with be the official oldest person to ever participate in the show, Susan Lucci at 61 is also taking part. Other stars include Toni Braxton, Ted McGinley and Cody Linley of Hannah Montana fame is the youngest at 18.

One scandal after another with this election.....couldn't help but notice the story of the candidate from Saanich-Gulf Islands who tore off his clothes, taking part in a body painting event, then went for a skinny-dip in the lake back in 1996. Ya have to know that someone has it on video, and it WILL come back to haunt you!!! Always remember that when running for office.

If your a Yankee fan, the legendary Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is now history. They played the last game yesterday, and will move right across the street to the new one. It was quite a send off, legend look-a-likes paraded around the field in old Yankee uniforms like Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio...in fact, Babe Ruth's daughter threw out the first pitch. Yankee Stadium saw it's first game in the 1920's.

The man who has admitted he shot and killed a boys puppy has turned himself in to police. No other details have been released about the case other than he says it was an accident. Most of the calls and e-mails we've received from people find this hard to believe. If you have any interest in animal welfare and their care, why not stop by the SPCA and report a case of cruelty and lend them your support.

We mentioned this morning on the show the fact that some full grown people still pronounce the word "tiger" as "tagger". We didn't have a real problem with it and actually thought it was kind of cute. We were surprised after when that comment really opened up the floodgates and we started getting calls from people who had pet peeves about other mispronunciations. The Maple Leafs Foods recall continues with over 60 people who have become sick by eating tainted deli meats over the the past month. At least a dozen people have died of the the disease. Food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, but eating it can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. When we took our family to the Okanagan on holidays we heard reports of rattle snakes around. We even visited the Vernon Science Centre and talked to a man who owned the pythons. He is 32 years old and lives with a bunch of snakes...he is not married, in fact he shared with us the fact that he has never even had a girlfriend!! WE CAN FINALLY SEE THE TWINS!

It’s probably safe to say that no twins on the planet have ever showed their faces in as dramatic a fashion as Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt. The twins, born on July 12 in France, made their photo debut on People.com and HelloMagazine.com on Sunday, but it took weeks of negotiating and a very fat check before that moment finally came. According to sources close to the photo exclusive, the negotiations were more difficult than those for previous Jolie-Pitt children.... Looks like you will not be able to chain up your lawn chairs days before Splash without them being removed. The reason they say, is a huge increase in people downtown with the Splash and Festival 150 this weekend…not to mention that 5 cruise ships will be visiting our city. It’s a safety issue on the causeway…people can’t get by five rows of chained lawn chairs. The new rules are that you can bring down your chairs starting at 8am Sunday morning but you can’t leave them unattended at any time or they will remove them. The areas permitted for chairs will be well marked and only two rows will be allowed. In the past people have been claiming their piece of real estate three days before. You can claim your confisgated lawn chair at Royal Athletic Park Saturday and Wednesday August 6th.

Robin Holman claims that she saw Ogopogo last week…she was driving on HWY 97 near Peachland when she noticed something in the water..she snapped a photo (which is yet to be developed)…it was snake like with humps, large head and green skin. They have had 5 sightings since April.Bill Steciuk claims he's seen the beast once and since then, has gone to great lengths to see it again. He has conducted over 2000 expeditions to find the creature and has not turned anything up yet…although he does have a sonar reading that did detect a five metre mass in front of their boat. We did not realize how "life like" some dolls have become and it's now caused some problems for police. There have been a couple of incidents recently where police have busted car windows to rescue babies and they turned out to be dolls. Selling for up to $1,000, the hand-painted dolls have eyelashes, fingernails, milk spots and wispy hair. They're even weighted to feel like a baby's weight. Some dolls even come with an umbilical cord and their own birth certificate. Vynette Cernik, who owned the doll says, "People do have to be careful when they go out with them. The Tour of Hope just started this week, a 5,000 mile journey across Canada in the Ford F-250 Econoline van that Terry Fox used in his own heroic journey across the nation. After Terry's run ended, the van was sold and it ended up in Ontario for years, then a Vancouver heavy metal band bought it. It was most likely headed to the wreckers when it was discovered a couple of years ago by a chance encounter at a house party. Ford Canada fully restored it to it's original condition. It's in Newfoundland now, driven part of the way by Terry's brother Fred and other family and friends. After raising money and awareness for the Terry Fox foundation, it should end up in Victoria September 12th. Victoria's Rob Reid was involved in making this all happen. The new North Coast trail is open and two guys wanted to be the first to run all 54km of it! Jeff Hunt of Victoria and Bob Wall of Campbell River ran the trail between Shushartie Bay and San Joef Bay in only 11 hours. It would take you five or six days to hike it…they carried water packs, gel packs and power bars…they saw a dead sea lion and a lot of bear poop…not much time was spent stopping to smell the skunk cabbage! You may have discovered this week that businessman and magician TONY ENG passed away after a six month battle with both skin cancer and Leukemia. He put up a courageous fight, but in the end, too much was thrown at him at once. We first met Tony over a decade ago and saw him professionally at various functions and charity events over time. He was invited to perform at the Ocean's KIDSFEST for many years, where he was one of the feature acts. He seemed to be a fixture at any get together we were at and thrilled us all with his close up magic. As a person, we found him warm and generous and he always had a twinkle in his eye. He will be missed. When he was diagnosed in October, he started keeping a blog of his life and his fight with two major diseases. All the details on his memorial service can be found there. Goodbye Tony, you will be missed.

We said we were going to do it and we did. Even the girls at Thriftys where we got the cake, heard us talk about it. One of them yelled out "Oh ya, your dog Bailey is having a birthday today!" We have never celebrated a dogs birthday before but this one was special. If you've ever had an ailing pet and had to make that ultimate decision to ease their suffering, you know what we are talking about. Imagine though, that you made plans to end a life out of pure love and compassion and you get a reprieve? Bailey wanted to live and with every ounce of strength she had left, she showed us that she had more love to give. Every day is a gift now. Hey look, it's another pet story!! This will appeal to you if you are a dog lover and boater....it looks as if Snickers the cocker spaniel has been rescued! Snickers spent three months adrift on a 48-foot boat and survived four months on a tiny Pacific atoll where his owners, Jerry and Darla Merrow of California, left him when they were rescued, after a cargo vessel refused to take him. Now Snickers is in Honolulu, rescued by cruise ship workers, the Hawaiian Humane Society, an airline, and others who have united to find him a home. The original owners gave up ownership of Snickers wanting to move on from their experience.Last December, the Merrows catamaran developed mast problems and hit a reef near Fanning Island, a populated but tiny atoll about 1,000 miles south of Hawaii. They swam ashore with Snickers where he was left in the care of some islanders, but apparently not very well. After awhile, the dog was actually "left to fend for itself."

Our chat yesterday about electric cars really struck a nerve with you. Our question was "They can put a man on the moon, so why can't they make an electric car that has the speed and features of a gas powered car". Apparently they have. In fact, the technology is there and has been there for years. Electric, air powered and hydrogen are a reality NOW but the car makers and big oil have kept them from us. In fact, in the 90's, GM brought out a wonderful electric car and it has since disappeared. Why? There is a great documentary called "Who Killed The Electric Car" which you must see. It will make you think and might make you mad too....

Health Canada is calling bisphenol A a dangerous substance, making it the first regulatory body in the world to reach such a determination and taking the initial step toward measures to control exposures to it.

Although the government won't announce specific bans or restrictions, the designation as dangerous could pave the way for the hormonally active chemical to be listed as toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, which would allow Health Minister Tony Clement to issue specific measures to curb its use.

Bisphenol A, or BPA, is one of the most widely used synthetic chemicals in modern industry. It is the basic building block for polycarbonate, the see-through, shatter-proof plastic that resembles glass, and is also used to make the epoxy resins lining the insides of most tin cans, along with some dental sealants, sports helmets, and compact discs.

Experts are worried about BPA in food and beverage containers. Products such as CDs aren't considered a problem.

You can determine which plastics contain bisphenol-A by checking the recycling code on the bottom. Avoid #3 (polyvinyl chloride) and #6 (polystyrene) for food and liquid storage, and it's not a bad idea to avoid #7 (which includes polycarbonate but other plastics) as well. Not all plastic is labeled so if it's made of clear, rigid plastic, it's probably made of polycarbonate. Products made of polypropylene are easy to identify because the BPA-free plastic is slightly cloudy and more flexible than polycarbonate.

Bisphenol-A has been shown to stimulate estrogen receptors which causes effects similar to estrogen in the body. In men, this may cause lowered sperm count and infertile sperm. It should be noted that most major bottle makers stand behind their products and it has been proven that the amount of BPA that's leached is below the recommended daily intake limit. Additionally, the studies that have been done have only focused on animals and results do not always correlate to humans. However, it is recommended by doctors that we avoid BPA - just in case. And because there are choices, why not make the safest one?

Then, reporter Lisa Ling went undercover to reveal the horror of puppy mills, where dogs are treated like dollars signs and kept in despicable conditions.Places where females are bred to have puppies twice a year, for their entire lives. Most males and female dogs who have outlived their usefulness are shot, die of disease or malnutrition. Most dogs don't know how to walk because they've lived in cramped filthy cages their entire lives. The crimes against these helpless creatures is beyond description. If you've listened to the show for any amount of time you would have figured out pretty quickly that I'm a Vancouver Canucks fan. After last nights frustrating loss to the Avalanche, it looks like they will miss the play-offs, unless a miracle happens. The bright side is, their star goaltender Roberto Luongo has just had a new baby girl and really, he should be with his wife and child right now. Some things are way more important than hockey. He will learn this pretty fast. I love their new LOGO though!! FORE!

You may have heard us talk this morning about the amazing story of Arnel Pineda. He was plain old schmo singing in night clubs in the Phillipnes doing cover songs of 80's bands. Well, one night Neal Schon, guitar player for Journey was surfing You Tube looking for a guy that could sing. He came across the video of Arnel's band THE ZOO at a club and could not believe his ears. The guy sounded exactly like their old lead singer Steve Perry. Needless to say he was hired and is now on tour with the group! ">

We talked this morning about Bryan Adams who has taken Amy Winehouse under his wing to try and help her defeat her drug addiction. He wrote a song about her called "Flower Grown Wild", which can be found on his new CD "Eleven". Sit down with your kids and view the powerful video above about the before and after of drug addiction.

Note: the makers of the video disappointed us at the end (around 2:15 into it)and it sort of lost its impact with a lighthearted ending ... but if you ignore this we think you'll find it as powerful as we did. (we are looking for an alternate version for you)

We now know that Jennifer "Don't Call Me J-LO" Lopez is now the mother of a beautiful set of twins. The boy Max and little girl Emme, are a month old now and doing great. PEOPLE magazine paid 6 million for the exclusive rights to the pics and agreed never to call her J-LO as part of the deal. Jennifer's long time friend, Leah Remini calls her "a born mom" and very nurturing. "With our daughter, she's so great. I mean she lets her go in her closet and play with her coats or her jewelry. She's just so giving and loving," The new PEOPLE mag hits US stores today...in Victoria, next week.

HEATHER MILLS TO GET NEARLY $50 MILLION FROM PAUL MCCARTNEY

Heather Mills accepted a $49 million divorce deal, apparently far lower than she wanted and far more than Paul McCartney wanted to give her. According to court documents, which the judge in the case has made public, Mills had wanted $250 million from Paul, while he'd offered somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million. After court on Monday, Mills said she was “very, very happy” with the settlement. Now, did she get a fair settlement? We asked you with our VIP poll and 82% said that Paul paid too much and that she was a "gold digger". The judge in the case agrees with you guys!

On the show this week, we talked about the case of a woman who briefly left her 2-year-old daughter alone in the car to take her two older daughters to pour coins into a Salvation Army kettle. The woman, Treffly Coyne, was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment and obstructing a peace officer after a Crestwood (a suburb of Chicago) police officer spotted her sleeping daughter alone in the vehicle Dec. 8. She was arrested in a loading zone near the entrance of a Wal-Mart store and always said that 2-year-old Phoebe was safe inside the car after she locked it, activated the alarm system and turned on the emergency flashers. She said she was never more than 30 feet from the vehicle, did not step inside the store and was gone for only minutes. The car was always in sight.

Mom's trial was supposed to begin yesterday, but prosecutors could not meet the burden of proof and decided to drop the charges. Her family is relieved but are upset that they put them through all of this heartache only to drop the charges at the last minute. We, along with a majority our listeners, didn't think she did anything wrong.

A rare photograph of a young Helen Keller with her teacher, Anne Sullivan, has been uncovered -- nearly 120 years after it was taken. The photograph, shot in July 1888, shows an 8-year-old Helen sitting outside in a light-colored dress, holding Sullivan's hand and cradling one of her beloved dolls. Experts on Keller's life believe it could be the earliest photo of the two women together and the only one showing the blind and deaf child with a doll — the first word Sullivan spelled for Keller after they met in 1887. We believe that some people are put on this earth for a reason. Helen Keller was one of them.

We are just blown away at the talent on American Idol this year. The guys especially, are phenomenal. You couldn't help but be moved when Jason Castro sang Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". One of our all time favorite versions of this song though happened when KD Lang sang it on the Juno's a couple of years ago. Watch it here. By the way, she has a new CD out called "Watershed" it's her first in about eight years!

Master Seaman Troy Stickley of HMCS Winnipeg and his wife, Monica, have a 3 year old son named Winston who was recently diagnosed with eye cancer. His parents had to rush him to Children's Hospital Friday to have his eye removed so the cancer would not spread to his brain. To add further sadness to an already traumatic situation - Troy and Monica were having their house renovated and have already had considerable work done. A dispute with their contractor has left their home in mid-reno and a mess. A crew of volunteers is going to do their best this week to try and make the house habitable - but they are going to need help and materials. That's where you come in. They are in dire need of money, building materials, volunteer tradespeople and food to feed them. If you can help, please drop off money donations at the RONA in Langford or at the Mayfair CIBC. Today is Anti-Bullying Day and to mark the occasion you are asked to wear PINK to work or school. This all came from a incident in Nova Scotia after a Grade 9 student was harassed, threatened and called a homosexual for wearing pink on the first day of school.

Some caring students then bought 50 pink shirts from a discount store, then e-mailed classmates to get them on board. The next day, hundreds of students showed up wearing pink clothing. We talked about organ donation and how a healthy 43 year old man from Vernon needed a heart because of a virus and was saved along with six other people because of the generosity of one donor. This is great.... a young couple from Argentina decided they were going to pack the kids into their 1928 Graham-Paige antique auto with wooden wheels and travel around the world. So far, they have criss-crossed North and South America, from the Amazon rain forest to the frozen tundra of Alaska. All at 35 mph! Mom, Candeleria, wanted her baby born in Canada, so in November, a new addition to the family came along. They are staying in Victoria for awhile to try and make enough to ship their car to Asia to continue their journey. The cool thing is, the car is on display at Mayfair for the next few days. You'll have to stop by and say Buenos Dias!

British Columbia’s best young athletes will be at the BC Winter Games February 21 to 24 in Kimberley and Cranbrook. With an average age of 13-15 years, these BC athletes are the best in their respective age categories and sports. Among them may be the next champions on the national or international stage.

The Cities of Kimberley and Cranbrook have joined together to host participants from across the province. Sport competitions will take place at 19 venues throughout the two communities. Good luck to everyone - we'll be cheering for you. 2008 Winter Games

There is a LUNAR ECLIPSE tonight and it's a very special one because the next one won't be until 2010. One of the best ways to see it, is to hang around the experts. Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be setting up their high tech equipment at Cattle Point tonight and you are invited to join them! So between 6-9pm you should have a look through their telescopes and hopefully catch a glimpse. What if it's cloudy you ask? I was certainly surprised this morning when Michael brought in the UVic Vocal Jazz group to sing a love song to me. These guys were great! This group of ambitious students are doing Singing Valentines as a Fundraiser, proceeds benefit the University of Victoria Vocal Jazz Fund. These four (well dressed) young men arrived with a flower and chocolates, and sang me a sweet and tender love song. A Valentines to remember for sure! Finally the man who claims that he is the son of JFK has come forward and had his photo taken. Jack Worthington allowed the Globe and Mail to interview him (that's why they are plastered over the photo) He says he's "constitutionally incapable of not coming forward" but ads, he'd like to retain his privacy. Good luck !! Do you see the resemblance? He looks like JFK with a little Bob Costas thrown in too.

We played "Longer" from Dan Fogelberg this morning and Lisa told me that he died. I did not know because it happened just before Christmas last year. He had a three year battle with prostate cancer and left us at the age of 56. He also left an amazing library of songs and many memories. Here's his offical website.

We mentioned the commercial that was designed especially for the hearing impaired and unlike other spots that try and scream their way into your conciousness, this one is silent.
